Drum Horses in Ceremony
We so excited with our decision to introduce the amazing breed of the Drum Horse to our farm. We are the first in Canada to import Drum Horses and they are proving to to be exceptional horses in beauty, temperament, grace and performance. We love the versatility of this breed as both a driving and riding horse yet quiet and easy to train.
The "Drums of Horse" of the 3rd King's Own Hussars (1896)
The 3rd Hussars possess the unique distinction in her Majesty's Army of
being allowed an extra kettle drummer and drum-horse, a mark of special
honour conferred on the gallant regiment on Christmas Day 1778 by King
George the Third. The kettle drummer receives a special rate of pay and
wears the uniform of a sergeant of Hussars, with a silver collar
engraved with military devices, a gift presented to the regiment in the
year 1772 by the wife of the then Colonel of the 3rd Dragoons, the Hon.
Charles Fitzroy (afterwards Lord Southampton). The silver kettle drums
of the regiment have also a unique interest. They were captured at the
sword's point, under the eyes of King George the Second, by the
ancestors of the 3rd King's Own Hussars, the old 3rd Dragoons
aforesaid, on the battlefield of Dettingen in 1743.
STALLION
We purchased our first Drum Horse SNG BAXTALO ROMEO in 2007 as a yearling from Gena Nietzel of Silvercreek, Washington. Romeo is by the famous stallion BSG Taliesin.
Romeo is now a 4 years old and we have been concentrating on training Romeo for both saddle and harness. It proved not to be a difficult challenge as he was a "Hitch and Go" and "Saddle and Go" horse. We spent the summer under harness driving the fields around our farm and trail riding and have used Romeo for riding lessons with beginner riders because he is so quiet. He is easy to handle and is not at all your typical stallion attitude. Children can go into his pasture and he is very happy to drop his head for an ear scratch and follow them around like a puppy dog. Below are some photos of Romeo, takenby Sharper Image Photography for the Alberta Archives Museum. Equine Heritage Exhibit.
We are looking forward to seeing the first foals by Romeo in 2010. We recently sold a Shire Mare to Melissa Roske of Texas, bred to Romeo and they have purchased the in utero-foal of Lily Putt, one of our foundation Drum Mares.
Contact us about the opportunity to breed your mare of any breed to Romeo. With his beauty, temperament and performance ability; he will be a great stallion for cross breeding for your next foal.
